Overview

Opportunity requires more than training alone.

Economic opportunity for vulnerable youth depends on more than access to training. Young people also need awareness of available opportunities, relevant market-driven skills, pathways to employment or self-employment, financial and technical support, and encouragement from their communities.

The program focused on vulnerable youth, particularly young women, across 56 rural communities. AGT supported a structured Youth Economic Empowerment approach designed to strengthen employability, expand awareness of vocational and technical education opportunities, support enterprise development, and connect participants with employment pathways.

The initiative combined assessment, skills development, local partnerships, financial and technical support, and monitoring to create a broader framework for social and economic participation.

The Challenge

Multiple connected barriers

Youth in rural communities faced several barriers at once rather than a single obstacle. Access to youth-friendly financial opportunities, market-driven vocational and technical education, life skills, enterprise-development training, and sustainable employment pathways was limited. The program also recognized the importance of community and parental support, particularly in encouraging young women to become economically and socially active.
